Entrepreneur's Mindset
I’m always looking to connect with people who work in tech but also have an entrepreneurial streak. I met this week’s guest by chance while on vacation, and he has such an interesting entrepreneurial story and mindset that I had to have him on the show.
Braun Mincher has been a successful entrepreneur for over 25 years in a diverse variety of business ventures. Since 1996, he has focused on being a leader with telecommunications and VoIP technologies. He leads several related telecom entities which specialize in Telecom Consulting, Hosted Voice-Over-IP (VoIP), and highly advanced IP-PBX phone systems for multi-location business enterprises and call centers nationwide.
Braun and I talk about why he has been a lifelong entrepreneur and what drives his passion for building businesses. We chat about how he decides what business to get into next, why he’s so passionate about financial literacy, and how he deals with problems and setbacks in business. This one is all about the entrepreneurial mindset, which is the foundation for any successful business.
In this episode, we’re discussing…
Why Braun has been building businesses since he was a child.
Why he is so inspired by the control, independence and flexibility of being an entrepreneur.
How Braun has identified new businesses and industries to get into over the years and what he’s learned from his competitors.
Why he is so interested in personal financial literacy and how he turned his passion into a book.
How he deals with problems and setbacks in his businesses.
Braun’s Top Tips:
Focus on what drives you – entrepreneurship isn’t an easy journey, so figure out what really drives you. For Braun, it’s the fact he gets to control his own financial destiny and be his own boss.
Put the hours in - most successful businesses require you to put in the hours when other people aren’t working. You’ll have to orient your life around your entrepreneurial pursuits and be prepared to put in the extra work to get your business off the ground.
Listen to what your clients say they need – Braun has gotten into new and adjacent industries simply by listening to what his longstanding clients ask for and need. He also keeps an eye on competitors in both current and potential industries so he can identify how their business models can be improved upon and sold.

Some of Braun’s other business endeavors include holdings in the banking, equipment leasing, real estate and publishing sectors. Braun’s first business was a vending route at the age of 16, and his complete entrepreneurial story was profiled in the book he published in 2007. His business accomplishments have earned him the prestigious Ernst & Young / Inc. Magazine “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award and repeat appearances on national TV networks, including the NBC “Today Show” and the FOX Business Channel with Neil Cavuto (see YouTube), in addition to frequently being profiled by numerous business publications and local media.
Braun was fortunate to be able to enjoy an extended work sabbatical following the sale of his last telecom company in 2004, and he used that time off to travel the world extensively, write an award-winning book, check off numerous items off his “Bucket List,” and volunteer his time for good causes. Braun returned full time to the telecom business in 2009 and is more passionate than ever about striving for world domination in the industry!
Braun is someone who is never content with mediocrity, and fanatically focuses on achieving successful results, efficiency, systems implementation and process improvement in everything he does. He is an FAA licensed aircraft pilot (instrument rated land & sea) who enjoys flying / aviation, boating / wakeboarding, SCUBA diving and traveling both domestically and internationally. In a previous life, Braun was also a formula race car driver.
