Crowdinvesting that is NOT Real Estate

When you hear the word “crowdfunding”, what do you think of?

Maybe….

  • Real estate sites like The Real Estate Crowdfunding Review that Ian Ippolito discusses on episode #3?

  • Fundraising sites like Go Fund Me?

  • Personal Loan sites like Kiva or Lending Club?

  • Product launch sites like Kickstarter?

Those all come to mind for me too.

And then, last week I was interviewing an Attorney who is focused on the crowdfunding space and he shared several other types of sites that I’d never heard of.    I’m excited to share these with you and I’m also reaching out to each site to potentially create live episodes around these investment options.

Let’s dig in!

Investing in Technology Startups

https://www.ourcrowd.com/ is a site that allows you to invest alongside institutional investors in early stage startups.   You have the opportunity to look at various companies, check out the investor presentation and review the due diligence package.    Minimum investment is $10,000 and you must be an accredited investor to leverage this platform.

https://www.seedinvest.com/  enables you to invest in startups that have a technology component.  The site has a diverse range of industries from medical device to wine to clothing.  Two areas that are dependent on the offering are whether or not you need to be an accredited investor and the investment minimum.   Thus, both accredited and non-accredited investors can leverage this platform.

Investing in Local Businesses

https://mainvest.com/ allows both accredited and non-accredited investors to provide loans to local businesses.   Most of the businesses currently listed are in food and beverage including pizzerias, bake shops and breweries.  Minimum investment is $100.

https://www.honeycombcredit.com/ also allows both accredited and non-accredited investors.  The minium investment is $100 which then is provided as a loan to local businesses.   Businesses listed include food and beverage, digital marketing and service businesses.

Investing in Healthcare Startups

https://www.redcrow.com/ provides opportunities to invest in a variety of healthcare startups including platforms and devices.   You must be an accredited investor to leverage this platform.

General Startups

https://www.startengine.com/ is a platform for both accredited and non-accredited investors to invest in various types of companies.  Some of the offerings require accreditation but not all. The site has a wide range of industries available and the minimum investment amounts vary by offering.

https://wefunder.com/ also lists a variety of different industries and companies that both accredited and non-accredited investors can invest in.  Examples include technology, local businesses, food and beverage, hardware, software, entertainment, retail and infrastructure.   Minimum investment amounts vary by offering.

Have you tried any of these sites?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on the experience and feature your feedback on the show!  Just drop me at note at Nichole@TheRicherGeek.com
